In a recent interview, two of the older Duggar sisters, Jessa & Jill, confirmed they were two of Josh’s victims. While Jessa deemed his actions, “very wrong,” she went on to defend him anyway.
After tearfully making the above statement, Jessa also added this one: “I do want to speak up in his defense against people who are calling him a child molester or a pedophile or a rapist, some people are saying,” Seewald said. “I’m like, that is so overboard and a lie really, I mean people get mad at me for saying that but I can say this because I was one of the victims.”
Upon reading this, I felt even more saddened for the victims of Josh’s sexual abuse. I feel terrible for them because his sister’s defense of him is only illustrating a typical reaction of incest survivors. If you’re an informed person-or you’ve watched a few episodes of SVU-you probably know that victim’s often minimize, or even recant reports of abuse.
Based upon parents of the family covering the abuse up for over a decade & then going to great lengths to publicly defend their son, is it really that shocking that his sister’s are minimizing the abuse as well? By defending Josh, then (while the abuse was going on) & now, Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar, showed the world-more importantly their son & their daughters-that Josh’s actions were okay. They’ve illustrated to the girls-& continue to do so-that their son is more important than they are.
Josh’s parents even described how his molestation (though they do
not refer to it as this) had evolved at their household & acted as if it was normal behavior. They stated that some of the girls were asleep & didn’t even know it was happening. They then said he touched some over their clothes & then under them a few times…..I’m curious, just what do you think molestation is?
While the girls are admitting the actions of their brother are wrong, they are not defining him as a child molester, or a rapist.
& why would they?
They’ve been taught their entire lives not to.
